What is Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that relaxes overactive muscles with Botulinum toxin. It’s an effective anti-aging treatment that also treats muscle spasm and TMJ.
It can last anywhere to 3-5 months. Other brands include Dysport and Xeomin.

Botox can also treat muscle spasm, bladder dysfunction, TMJ (temporomandibular joint dysfunction), hyperhidrosis and chronic migraines. It’s a safe and effective treatment with minimal downtime.

Botox treats the following

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Masseteer
  • Muscular calves
  • Excessive sweating
  • Muscle spasm

How does Botox work

Once injected into the treatment area, Botox blocks muscle movement and relaxes the skin to diminish wrinkles and stop wrinkle formation. Botox can also lift and smooth skin along with shrinking muscles.

What to expect

Your face will be cleaned and disinfected before treatment, the area of treatment is marked then the nurse will inject the Botox.

The effect begin to be seen within a couple days to a week and the full effect will show within two weeks.

You may experience the following after treatment:

Pain at the injection site
Swelling
Redness
Bruising

Procedure

After the consultation with a certified nurse specialist, we will create a treatment plan just for you. First, the nurse injector will have to know your medical history, treatment goals, treatment areas, and all related details. The injection areas are observed to pinpoint ideal injection sites and anatomical features.

All injections are completed with a small needle to minimize pain/discomfort. This treatment will conclude in less than 5-10 minutes depending on the number of target areas.

After Care

You cannot do the following after your Botox treatment:

Touch, massage or rub the treated areas
Exercise
Consume salty food and alcohol

Do not do the following until the redness and swelling has subsided:

Wear makeup
Sunbathing
Saunas
Tanning
Hot tubs
Hot wax
Winter sports

Recovery

Once the treatment is completed, patients are given post-procedure guidelines. These details illustrate all after-care requirements at home.

The injectionist will analyze the surface of the skin to pinpoint potential redness, swelling, and/or irritation. If present, an ointment is provided to help it settle. With the help of a certified injectionist, all post-treatment issues last no more than a few hours.

The initial results will appear once the skin settles (24-48 hours). All long-term results appear 1-2 weeks after the session is completed and should last 3-5 months.

Please note, each patient is unique and these dates can vary.

The skin will go back to how it was if another injection isn’t completed in 3-5 months. However, patients display longer lasting results with each additional injection as the skin trains itself to stay put.

Side effects of Botox

While a certified injectionist reduces any chance of side effects, it’s best to keep note of what each procedure entails.

Side effects can include pain/discomfort, fatigue, headaches, droopy eye(s), and allergic reactions.

In most cases, these are mild and disappear in no more than a few hours.

Patients are recommended and will be asked to state all medical conditions before the procedure including allergies, muscle conditions, nerve conditions, and pregnancies. The injectionist will also inquire about previous Botox injections, facial surgeries, and current medications.

In general, the clinic will examine a patient before determining the appropriate course of action. An ideal candidate is someone with fine lines/wrinkles between the ages of 18 and 65.
