Micro Needling for Skin
Micro-needling
Micro-needling creates microscopic punctures in the skin, causing micro injuries which forces skin to generate new collagen and skin tissue to achieve smoother, firmer, more toned skin. It is one of the best treatments for treating acne scars, wrinkles and enlarge pores. You can supercharge it with hyaluronic acid which helps to increase skin hydration or platelet rich plasma, or PRP, which helps to reduce the discomfort and speed up healing and more effective in treating acne scars.
According to a 2008 study, skin treated with four micro-needling sessions spaced one month apart, produced up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin six months after completing treatment.
Micro-needling is most often used on your face to target:
- acne scars
- age spots
- stretch marks
- fine lines and wrinkles
- large pores
- other types of scars
- reduced skin elasticity
- uneven skin tone
Procedure
A skin specialist makes small pricks under the skin with an electronic pen-like tool. The pinpricks are so tiny that you likely won’t notice them after the procedure. The skin specialist will move the tool evenly across your skin so that the new skin will grow evenly.
Before getting started, a topical anesthetic is applying to reduce the chances of pain. the actual micro-needling process takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
Side effects
Here are some of the potential side effects from micro-needling, it usually subsides with in 24-48 hours.
- bleeding
- bruising
- infection
- peeling
it is very important to keep the skin well protected after micro-needling treatment. For the rest of the day, don’t wash the skin, expose it to high heat, sweat too much (that means no sun, no gym, no hot yoga, no sauna) By using medical bio face mask every day for 3 days after the treatment you can speed up the skin healing process. Do not use any type of skincare with acids or retinol on the skin within the first week after the treatment to avoid skin irritation.

Your questions answered
Micro-needling can significantly reduce and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
Doing micro- needling alone will give you benefits such as plumping the skin and reduce pores and scars, however, by doing it alone you won’t have any lubricants which can normally result in a less comfortable procedure. If the budget is allowed, we usually recommend to supercharge your treatment with hyaluronic acid which helps to increase skin hydration or platelet rich plasma, or PRP, which helps to reduce the discomfort and speed up healing and more effective in treating acne scars.
The procedure usually takes 30-45 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
You will notice some redness to the skin after the treatment. The healing time depends on the setting used and the number of overlapping passes your skin care professional performs. On average, it takes up to 2 to 4 days to fully heal. Depending on your skin, some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin right after the treatment. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.
Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. For treating server acne scars, you might need more. We do recommend you to come for a free consultation before starting your treatment so our skin specialist can give you a customized plan that is best suited for your needs.
Mirco-needling alone cost $299/treatment, if you’d like to super charge your treatment, you can add $199 for the hyaluronic acid booster and $299 for PRP.
